Laura Ingalls Wilder Giveaway…Back-to-School Giveaway Week!!!

Welcome to our Back to School Giveaway week!!!!

One of the things I love about homeschooling is being able to take our kids on fun field trips that make learning so real for them! Well…this field trip was a dream come true for all of us! And on this field trip I brought something back to giveaway to one of you!!!

I am a HUGE fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder and Rose Wilder and the whole “Little House” as well as the Rose Series of books! My kids are too!!! It is a family thing for us. Will wanted to take us on a very special field trip to Mansfield MO this past spring but he had already gone to heaven. So on the weekend Annie came to our house to honor what would have been his 46th birthday in May, our first without him with us, she and I decided it was time to surprise the boys with a special family road trip to Mansfield!

After a long car ride the kids were a little wound up and excited and had to share their silliness in the photo you see on the top right. This is a bust of Laura in the town square in Mansfield. You can see the gazebo that is talked about in the Rose Years series of books that talks about their life in the Ozark Hills of Missouri. This trip was a dream come true for me and I was so, so blessed to share it with all three of our children.

The photo on the left is the first sign that greets you at the parking lot at her historic Rocky Ridge Farm and the one on the right is the front of the museum that is SO full of wonderful artifacts from both Laura and Rose’s lives. We voted and our favorite artifact in it is Pa’s fiddle!!! What an amazing experience to see it in person!

To the right of the museum is Laura and Almanzo’s Rocky Ridge Farm house that they built together. What an experience to see and walk through it!!! I’ll tell more about it in a future post because I know you are excited about seeing the surprise I brought back from our trip to Mansfield to giveaway this week!!!

This is the house known as the “Rock House” that Rose had built for her Laura and Almanzo later in life. Laura actually wrote the “Little House” series while she was living in this home. It is just a short jaunt down the road from the Rocky Ridge Farm House.

OK now the part you have been waiting for!!! A very special giveaway!!!

While we were in the gift shop I could have spent a fortune! It is filled such wonderful Ingalls and Wilder treasures! I found a few special items for our family but I couldn’t leave without bringing back something to giveaway here on Unwrapping His Grace family too!!!

So here is the special Ingalls Wilder prize package!!!

For starters…I got one of these for our home and couldn’t resist getting one for you too! This is a beautiful print from a time of celebrating and dancing with the Ingalls family while Laura was a girl. The artist is Cheryl Harness. This photo doesn’t do it justice though, in my opinion. The image/art picture itself is 8×10 but I am not positive about the size of the whole print though…I do know that, including the white border it is larger than 11 x 17. This is a treasured piece for sure!

The next treasure in this prize package is “The Story of The Ingalls Family –A biography of the family from the “Little House” books” by William Anderson. He is an Ingalls and Wilder historian and a wonderful writer! And ladies…it is an autographed copy!!! It is a small book but it is FULL of amazing true stories about all of the Ingalls family from the time that Laura was growing up to her and her sisters lives as adults too! There are also wonderful stories about Caroline and Charles! And to top it off there are LOTS of wonderful pictures of photographs from their family history!!!!

cookbook collageAnd last but NOT least is a copy of “The Laura Ingalls Wilder Country Cookbook”. As it states on the cover it is filled with 70 of Laura’s recipes, plus her household hits…and gorgeous photographs from rooms and special places all over her Rocky Ridge Farm and farm-house!!! Including a photo of the desk she sat at to hand write the “Little House” Books!!!

This is a book that is a sacrifice for me to part with because I could only afford one but after much thought decided it needed to be included in this week’s special Back to School Giveaway!!!

Please note…This Giveaway is limited to those living in the U.S. this time due to shipping costs and my limited personal budget.

About the author

Mary Joy

I am a broken daughter of God and a work in progress. I am passionate about encouraging women to embrace God's grace and faithfulness as I discover and share His faithfulness, grace and even joy in the messiness of my journey as a widowed (less than 2 yrs), homeschooling mom with a missionary's heart. I am in awe of how God fills me up and carries me through each day. My Heavenly Father leads me as I continue to parent and home school my two recovering and very active boys and encourage my beautiful teenage step-daughter (long distance) during her first year in of college. In every moment I see incredible evidence of God's healing love, grace and faithfulness. I am so blessed to be the creator, manager, and an author of Unwrapping His Grace as I lean on my Savior to lead us in this special web-ministry.

I joined this site, and my favorite book is “Little House in the Big Woods.” I love this book b/c my 1st grade teacher gave it to me years ago, which got me interested in reading, and I have passed this tradition on to my 4 girls. When my first daughter was little, I would fall asleep reading to her at bedtime! We love “Little House” b/c it is a book/show that the whole family can enjoy :) Glad you got to have that experience with your boys.

Oh wow!!! We are huge Laura Ingalls Wilder fans!!! So much so that we visited three of the sites summer of 2012. :) We enjoyed Rocky Ridge there in MO, Little House on the Prairie in Kansas, and Ingalls Homestead in SD. We also read through her books as a read aloud about once a year. And Lord-willing, we will start the Prairie Primer soon!

It’s really hard to narrow it down to one book being our favorite! I love the life lessons of being thankful for what you have in The Long Winter. Every time we read that books, we become more appreciative the Lord’s blessings.

Thank you for your kind heart and sweet, thoughtful giveaway!

This is so cool! I grew up reading the “Little House” books and is one of the reasons I was inspired to become a writer. Of course, I’m still searching for a family connection to Rose since we share a surname. =) She married a Lane too.

I cannot choose one book. I just looked over my set including the music book last weekend at our farm. I too dreamed of living with them as a girl. I wrote a 15 page story in 3rd grade about a dream where my friend and I got to visit and could then go back whenever we wanted. :-) What a wonderful experience! May need to reread now.

It is so hard to choose which one is my favorite. I am amazed at their survival whenever I read The Long Winter and I also loved reading Little Town on the Prairie with Almanzo and Laura as well as Mary going off to college. Our family loves Mr. Edwards in Little House on the Prairie.

The books have an extra special spot in my heart since my mother loved them as well. You can probably tell where she got the idea for my name (and my middle name is Mary.)

We absolutely love Little House. We have the whole set of books- and read them as a family in the evenings before bed. We also have the whole movie collection and my husband likes to get his “parenting lessons from Pa”. We LOVE Little House and I would love to visit the Museum someday!
