Surrendering becomes our testimony of His faithfulness– Journal Guide wk 8

There is healing in surrendering our brokenness to Father God!

If you haven’t had a chance to read Surrendering becomes our testimony of His Faithfulness, be sure to stop for a moment now and click over and read it before reading this week’s journaling guide.

The reflection questions/actions are based on this devotion for this week. I hope you find them helpful.  If they don’t fit you or your family’s journaling needs this week, as always, feel free to tweak them or create your own.  I look forward to hearing how God is working in your life this week!  You are in my prayers!

This week’s journaling will be a bit different for adults compared to the journaling for children.  But I hope it will help all of us to see with grace and learn to love one another as He loves us.

Adult Journaling Guide

Day 1– Take some time to flip through your Bible, feel free to use a concordance to find the passages that focus on how God calls us to surrender our lives, our weaknesses, our sin, our gifts, every part of who we are to Him because He loves us so much. Pray about which passage or passages to write in your journal today.  Create something beautiful with the passages or just write them as a journal entry…whatever works best for you.

Day 2– Take some time to re-read the passage(s) you wrote in your journal on Day 1.  Today I want us to take some time to remember that surrendering to God may be hard sometimes, but it is an amazing thing…an amazing opportunity to pour out who we are at His feet and run into His arms filled with love, forgiveness and grace.  Let’s remember how much God loves us.  How much He loves us with ready grace…through His eyes of grace. Wow.  I don’t know about you but unfortunately, there are some areas of my life that I struggle with giving up control.  As women we are taught to be the care givers and to be ready to do for everyone…but God wants us to know that it is He who works through us.  He wants to carry US…to work through us.  And He can’t do that when we are holding onto the steering wheel so tightly that we don’t allow Him in to take care of us and to teach and lead us.  His ways are so much better than ours…and He is strongest when we feel at our weakest.  Now I want us to take a few moments and write about an area of our lives we need to surrender to Him. I know it isn’t easy, but the peace that fills us when we hand that part of our lives over to Him is beyond words amazing.  Write about it in your journal and then take some time to thank Him for being there for you and showing you that you can trust His loving care for you.

Day 3– Take some time to re-read the passage(s) you wrote in your journal on Day 1.  Now look at your entry from Day 2.  Today we are going to take some time to write a letter to God surrendering the thing we have held onto.  This is just between you and God.  Pour out your heart…give it all to Him.  Pour out whatever it is that you are holding tightly to in whatever words you would use when talking to your best friend. Make this your prayer.  Then take a few moments and just be still and open your heart to hearing God’s loving response to you.  Journal about His response if you feel led to do that. I pray this helps and blesses you today.

Day 4– Take some time to re-read the passage(s) you wrote in your journal for Day 1.  Then take some time to look back over your journaling for this week. Today it is time to look at the things you have surrendered to God in the past and look at how He has worked/transformed those things you struggled with into ways of ministering to you and showing His love and faithfulness to you and others.  Make a list of the many ways that God has been faithful when you felt so weak that you didn’t know how you could do something or how He has helped you to give up a sin or weakness you needed to let go of…how is God transforming your life.

Day 5– Take some time to re-read the passage(s) you wrote in your journal on Day 1. Sometimes we forget that we are not the only ones who struggle with surrendering to God. Today I want us to think of someone who is going through a hard time in their life…for whatever reason.  Then  write that person a note in a greeting card and mail it to them or hand deliver it and stop by their home to help out or just listen.  And be sure to remind them in the note of how much God loves them and He is with them more than ever when they feel weak and is ready to carry them through when they are ready to ask Him for help.  Share your story of surrender and how God was faithful in your life with His grace.  This is your testimony of His faithfulness…share it with love and grace.  Take some time to write about your experience in your journal.

Children’s Journaling Guide

Day 1– Take some time to flip through your Bible, feel free to use a concordance to find the passages that focus on how God calls us to surrender our lives, our weaknesses, our sin, our gifts, every part of who we are to Him because He loves us so much. Talk with your parents and look up what it means to surrender in the dictionary.  Write down the definition and discuss it with your family.

Is there something you struggle with that you need to give to Him?  Is there an area of sin or something that is hard for you to do?  When we try to do things by ourselves without asking God for His help and leadership we never can do it as well as God can.  Take some time to think about something you need to surrender to God.  If you want, talk about it with your parents, they can help you with this.  Or you can do this privately between you and God.

Day 5– Take some time to re-read the passage(s) you wrote in your journal on Day 1. Sometimes we forget that we are not the only ones who struggle with surrendering to God. Today I want us to think of someone who is going through a hard time in their life…for whatever reason.  Then take the time to write that person a note in a greeting card and mail it to them or hand deliver it to their home or give it to them at school.  Find a way to encourage them while they are going through their own tough times.

About the author

Mary Joy

I am a broken daughter of God and a work in progress. I am passionate about encouraging women to embrace God's grace and faithfulness as I discover and share His faithfulness, grace and even joy in the messiness of my journey as a widowed (less than 2 yrs), homeschooling mom with a missionary's heart. I am in awe of how God fills me up and carries me through each day. My Heavenly Father leads me as I continue to parent and home school my two recovering and very active boys and encourage my beautiful teenage step-daughter (long distance) during her first year in of college. In every moment I see incredible evidence of God's healing love, grace and faithfulness. I am so blessed to be the creator, manager, and an author of Unwrapping His Grace as I lean on my Savior to lead us in this special web-ministry.
