Decorating Decisions- Help! (Real Life as a recently widowed, homeschooling mama)

Last week I shared with all of you that Spring Fever has hit me and I have decided to get ready!  After all, it is right around the corner, right?

My new fabric---Spring Fever has hit! Unwrapping His Grace at surrenderedlivingnow.com

I was so thrilled to find this beautiful fabric on the sale table at Wal-mart last week for only $2.00 per yard.  I bought six yards!

Now the challenge is deciding what to do with it and I really need your help!

I am trying to decide if I should use it to make throw pillows for my bed and the couch and love seat in our living room to help bring spring into two rooms.  If I did that I could make a topper for the windows in my master bedroom.

Another option I was originally considering was to make curtains for both of the windows that frame my bed…sadly I have found that I don’t have enough fabric.  And I think it might be a bit too much pattern as full curtains.

Here are some casual pictures of my bedroom…well the bed area anyway.

It isn’t a huge bedroom, but I am still working on organizing and rearranging some of it so this is all I am ready to share tonight.  I’ll share more another day.  And ladies…I hope and pray you will ignore the clutter you see…focus your eyes on the bed and windows!  LOL  Thank you…just keeping it real!  The small table behind my night table on the right is stacked with some of Will’s things from his home office/study that I am still working on finding a place to put them.  I told you my space was a work in progress. :)

Looking at these pictures I am thinking I no longer like the green throw pillow on my bed.  It was a pillow that worked beautifully in Will’s study/office on his couch in there.  I think I need to find it a new home.  See you are helping me just by having me share pictures with you!!!  How do you like our Wedding Anniversary quilt?  I just love it.  I wrapped up in it in my bed in both of the hospitals I was in and then in Haven House while I lived there to be near the boys after I was discharged from the Rehab Hospital before they were allowed to go home from their Rehab Hospital.  It means so much to me.

Yes, I am aware that the lamp you see needs to be replaced.  It was in Will’s office too.  We had just started decorating our master bedroom together before he passed away.  So I am just now getting back to it little by little as time and budget allow.

Here is one more picture to give a little better idea of the space…now IGNORE the deodorant and hair brush on the shelves!  I completely forgot I left them there before I took this picture tonight! LOL At least you know what you see is really my space!  No staging going on here! ;)   The crocheted doll on the top shelf was a special gift from my dear Aunt Joan who made it for a fair competition and won a prize for it.  She gave it to me as a special gift while I was in the Rehab Hospital last summer recovering from the accident and learning to walk and take care of myself again.

This is a large chuck of my collection of books.  I love having them in my room with me.  We have books all over our house.  Books are dear friends to all of us.  I have Will’s library in another corner in my master bedroom.  Sometime I will share pictures of that with you…once my bedroom is finished.

Also…the wreath above my bed was something special that I made with things from Will and my courtship/wedding time.  I am going to move it to a place above my dresser that is opposite the foot of my bed.  I am going to put this picture in a nice warm brown frame above my bed…at least until I get a new photo made of me with all three of my children.  This is one of my very favorite pictures of Will and I together.  Gina Marie actually took it one month before Will went ahead of us to heaven.  Having it means so much to me.  This is us on our front porch here at my house.

Here is another photo of the fabric I am trying to decide how to use in my room…

OK…so now you have seen pictures of my bedroom and the fabric.  I need your thoughts and ideas on this.

I can’t wait to hear your ideas!!!

I will share the inspiration you give me in another post last next week sometime.

So what do you think?  I really want to know what you think I should do with my new fabric!

Mary Joy

I am a broken daughter of God and a work in progress. I am passionate about encouraging women to embrace God's grace and faithfulness as I discover and share His faithfulness, grace and even joy in the messiness of my journey as a recently widowed, homeschooling mom with a missionary's heart. I am in awe of how God fills me up and carries me through each day as a new widow and accident survivor. My Heavenly Father leads me as I continue to parent and homeschool our two recovering and very active boys; and encourage my beautiful teenage step-daughter (long distance) as she graduates from high school without her Daddy. In every moment I see incredible evidence of God's healing love, grace and faithfulness. I am so blessed to be the creator, manager, and lead author of Unwrapping His Grace as I lean on my Savior to lead us in this special web-ministry.

I am an interior designer and would love to help you with this little project. Can you share an email with me so we can communicate?

Love the fabric and it looks like it will go very well with the color of your walls. Since there isn’t enough to do both windows, I like your idea of a few throw pillows and window toppers. You can then find something light and airy like shear panels for the actual windows. Either a bright white or the cream color. Although, since your windows are so nicely finished you wouldn’t need anything else.

I love those ideas! Creamy sheer panels would be a nice way to finish them off too. Thanks for the encouraging words! I can’t wait to get started! My mom’s visit was postponed so it will be a little bit but I am still excited about getting a fresh springy look.

      Blessings!
