If you haven’t had a chance to read “I asked for eyes that I may see with grace”, be sure to stop for a moment now and click over and read it before reading this week’s journaling guide.

The reflection questions/actions are based on this devotion for this week.

And I have prayed about the direction to go with these, they are for me and my family as well as all of you.  I hope you find them helpful.  If they don’t fit you or your family’s journaling needs this week, as always, feel free to tweak them or create your own.  I look forward to hearing how God is working in your life this week!  You are in my prayers!

This week’s journaling will be a bit different for adults compared to the journaling for children.  But I hope it will help all of us to see with grace and learn to love one another as He loves us.

Adult Journaling Guide

Day 1– Take some time to flip through your Bible, feel free to use a concordance to find the passages that focus on how God loves us and sees us through His grace. Pray about which passage or passages to write in your journal today.  Create something beautiful with the passages or just write them as a journal entry…whatever works best for you.

Day 2– Take some time to re-read the passage(s) you wrote in your journal on Day 1.  Today I want us to take some time to remember how much God loves us.  How much He loves us with ready grace…through His eyes of grace. Wow.  I don’t know about you but I couldn’t get through a day without God loving me with that kind of love and ready forgiveness and patience.  Now I want us to take a few moments and write about the love and grace we have experienced from God just in the last week or so. Write about it in your journal and then take some time to thank Him for being there for you and showing you that you can trust His loving care for you.

Day 3– Take some time to re-read the passage(s) you wrote in your journal on Day 1.  Now look at your entry from Day 2.  Now it is time to think about how we see and love our children.  Do we get too caught up in training and disciplining or the work of the day and find ourselves getting easily frustrated with our children or do we stop and remember that our relationship with them is much more important than completing a task on time or doing something “perfectly”. If you are like me there are days when I feel a real ouch moment here.  Now take a moment to pray and ask God to show help you see your child, in the midst of struggles or meltdowns with His eyes of grace. What do you see? Take some time to write it down in your journal.

Day 4– Take some time to re-read the passage(s) you wrote in your journal for Day 1.  Then take some time to look back over your journaling for this week.  Now I want you to think about each child as an individual.  Take a few moments and list the qualities/things you admire, appreciate, that make you smile or are godly qualities or character traits that you see in them.  Now I want you to find opportunities to tell each child how proud you are of him/her.  Point out the qualities you see as they happen and tell them how what a blessing they are.  Tell them you love them…even in the midst of struggles.  You could even write each of them a letter or a note telling them what you see in them and how much you love them.

Day 5– Take some time to re-read the passage(s) you wrote in your journal on Day 1.  Today it is time to schedule.  Schedule one-on-one time with each of them to take with them over the next week.  It doesn’t have to be an outing, it can even be working on a project with him/her at home or reading together or just listening to him/her talk about something that is important to them.  It could be playing a game together.  Just do something one-on-one with them that show them how important they are to you.  Write about your experience.

Children’s Journaling Guide

Day 1– Take some time to flip through your Bible, feel free to use a concordance to find the passages that focus on how God loves us and sees us through His grace. Ask your parents for help with this if you need it. Write the passage or passages in your journal today.

Now it is time to think about how we see your brothers/sisters or the children in your class at school.  Do you remember to treat them with the same patience and love God gives you when you aren’t agreeing on things? Do you forget that God loves them just like He loves you and wants you to treat them with that same patience and grace? Write about a time when it was hard for you to be kind to someone/friend/brother/sister and ask God to help you to do better next time.

Day 4– Take some time to re-read the passage(s) you wrote in your journal for Day 1.  Then take some time to look back over your journaling for this week.  Now I want you to think about your friend or brother/sister as a person. Take a few moments and list the qualities/things you admire, appreciate, that make you smile or are godly qualities or character traits that you see in them.  If you have brothers and sisters do this for each one. Now I want you to find opportunities to tell them things you like about them or appreciate that they do with or for you or how they treat you. Point out the qualities you see as they happen and tell them how what a blessing they are.  You could even write each of them a letter or a note telling them what you see in them and how much you love them.

Day 5– Take some time to re-read the passage(s) you wrote in your journal on Day 1.  Today I want you to think about your parent(s). What are some of the things you like about or appreciate about them?  Make a list in your journal of those things.  Now take a few minutes and write them a note to tell them that you love them and at least three things you appreciate about them.  Now is the hard part.  When you are angry or frustrated or don’t agree with your parents.  Remember the things you love about them and make sure your words and actions show that love even when you don’t agree.

If you haven’t joined me in this Blessing Journal Challenge for 2013 and would like more information you can find out more here.  And the rule is…you start with today!  There is no “catching up” or guilt for not completing all the weeks.  And what I share in the guides are just that…a guide…you journal about what the Lord leads you to write/create.

About the author

Mary Joy

I am a broken daughter of God and a work in progress. I am passionate about encouraging women to embrace God's grace and faithfulness as I discover and share His faithfulness, grace and even joy in the messiness of my journey as a widowed (less than 2 yrs), homeschooling mom with a missionary's heart. I am in awe of how God fills me up and carries me through each day. My Heavenly Father leads me as I continue to parent and home school my two recovering and very active boys and encourage my beautiful teenage step-daughter (long distance) during her first year in of college. In every moment I see incredible evidence of God's healing love, grace and faithfulness. I am so blessed to be the creator, manager, and an author of Unwrapping His Grace as I lean on my Savior to lead us in this special web-ministry.
