Art Doesn’t have to be Complicated

I have a confession to make…I know that I promised you an article sharing our Autumn art projects this week.  Sadly, we have only finished our first one.  We’ve gotten a little distracted as we start preparing for next week’s art focus…starting to make our Advent Jesse Tree Ornaments.  So please forgive me for the simplicity of this project…

A very simple one that was a lot of fun for us…especially the gathering leaves part!  lol

We started with leaf rubbings.  I know its basic but we all enjoyed it, tremendously.  It was fun to help each other…especially Michael (age 3).

Here are our finished simple Autumn art projects…

Michael’s finished project (age three)

Josh’s leaf rubbing art project (age eight)

My leaf rubbing art project (age 43)

I know they are basic projects.  But we love them!  They are in a place of honor above my desk in our dining room.  Next month I hope to buy some frames to put them in….frames always make things look extra special!  Projects don’t have to be complicated to be special and pretty…know what I mean?

We ended up spending more time on our leaf science projects this week instead of art. But we did get our Autumn decorations up.  We all have our favorites.  We don’t have a lot of decorations and the ones we do have are fun, simple and very inexpensive.  I love to add seasonal decor to our home as much as possible.  It makes me smile…and my husband and children love it too!

Next week I will be sharing…

Our simple Autumn decorationsmost of which I found at yard sales & thrift stores!

Surrendering in the kitchen as I share my newest creation…Fifteen Bean Chili (Its delicious and VERY good for you!)

The boys and I are making our own Advent Jesse Tree Ornaments that we will be using during our Family Worship the four weeks before Christmas!!  I can’t wait to tell you about this very special project!

And other things as the Lord lays them on my heart!

So….

I am a broken daughter of God and a work in progress. I am passionate about encouraging women to embrace God's grace and faithfulness as I discover and share His faithfulness, grace and even joy in the messiness of my journey as a recently widowed, homeschooling mom with a missionary's heart. I am in awe of how God fills me up and carries me through each day as a new widow and accident survivor. My Heavenly Father leads me as I continue to parent and homeschool our two recovering and very active boys; and encourage my beautiful teenage step-daughter (long distance) as she graduates from high school without her Daddy. In every moment I see incredible evidence of God's healing love, grace and faithfulness. I am so blessed to be the creator, manager, and lead author of Unwrapping His Grace as I lean on my Savior to lead us in this special web-ministry.

I need to do that this week with my little guys… I keep a cabinet full of arts and crafts materials. This week I pulled out the paper plates and orange paper. We tore the paper into small squares, then glued them onto the plates. Caedmon also painted one with an orange do-a-dot paint. Green pipe cleaner became a vine and green checked craft paper became a stem. I need to see if we have any small paper lunch bags. With some type of filler you could paint, color or marker the bags orange while doing the top part in brown, fill them up with newspaper (maybe even some rice or beans in the bottom for stabitlity), tie the top brown part off with green raffia. Probably would have to scrunch it into a rounded shape, but I think it would be cute. Beans or rice in a pint or halfpint jar with raffia or twine tied around the top and a votive or taper candle inserted would make a great centerpiece with some of the paper bag pumpkins…..OOOOHHHH!! Now I'm excited!!

Do we love creating art together? YES! But I quite forgot about doing that in all of the busyness we have had and continue to have! Thanks for the reminder! I forget to do the simple things with this other set of little ones sometimes!!! They have soo been enjoying the weather and collecting acorns was an educational and profitable blast! They actually learned the difference in various acorns!! Notice I said they…I never could discern the difference! LOL! Thanks for sharing your craft! Blessings,

      Dana,

I completely understand! I had so many more Autumn art projects that I had planned to do with our children than I have actually done. What a busy month it has been!

I love that you all worked with the acorns…collecting them, selling them, learning to identify them. That is SO neat! I had no idea there were different kinds of acorns. I've never really thought about it. How neat that THEY are learning to identify them. lol I have a hard time seeing the difference too!

So glad that you all are having such a fun and profitable month/Autumn. Thank you so much for stopping by. Its a blessing to inspire you…even if it is with such a simple project. lol I felt bad just sharing leaf rubbings…but we enjoyed it so much and they look so pretty up on my wall by my desk that I thought it might be nice to get back to basics…sometimes I forget that I don't have to put hours into an art project for it to be a good thing for them. I am blessed to have inspired others…who inspire me all the time! :D

      Blessings!
